Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar completed 100 days in office with a series of major welfare and governance announcements, including a plan to distribute five lakh housing sites to people without land or homes. The government also launched multiple digital platforms and public service initiatives aimed at improving citizen access, agriculture support and urban mobility.
The announcements, made in Bengaluru, come as the Karnataka government highlights its focus on inclusive growth, technology-based governance and welfare delivery during Shivakumar’s initial tenure as Chief Minister.
The biggest announcement on the occasion was the government’s plan to provide five lakh housing sites to people who do not own land or residential plots, especially in rural areas. The initiative is aimed at helping economically weaker families secure permanent housing opportunities and improve their quality of life.
The government said the housing site distribution programme reflects its commitment towards social security, rural development and ensuring that more families have access to basic residential facilities. The scheme is expected to become one of the major welfare initiatives of the Karnataka government as it focuses on land ownership and housing security.
As part of its 100-day programme, the Karnataka government introduced Seva One, a unified digital citizen service platform designed around the concept of One Government, One Digital System. The platform aims to bring multiple government services under a single digital interface, allowing citizens to access services, submit requests and communicate with government departments more easily.
The initiative is expected to strengthen e-governance, reduce paperwork and improve transparency in public service delivery. Officials said the digital platform will help create a more connected relationship between citizens and the administration.
The government also launched the Chief Minister Raitha Chaitanya scheme with the objective of making agriculture more profitable through timely and location-specific advice for farmers.
The scheme was initially introduced in Mandya, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Hassan and Shivamogga districts. Under the initiative, farmers are expected to receive better guidance related to farming practices, crop management and agricultural decision-making.
The government plans to expand the programme across all districts of Karnataka in the coming phase. The move comes amid growing focus on technology-based solutions in agriculture and improving income opportunities for farmers.
The Karnataka government also introduced BMTC 2.0, a mobile application aimed at improving public transport experience for Bengaluru commuters. The app will allow passengers to track buses in real time, check routes and arrival timings, purchase digital tickets and use wallet-based payment options.
It will also include features such as multimodal journey planning, integrated ticketing between BMTC buses and Namma Metro, and daily, weekly and monthly travel passes. The initiative is expected to improve connectivity in Bengaluru and make public transport more convenient for daily commuters.
Along with BMTC 2.0, the government launched the One Karnataka Mobility App, also known as KSRTC Avatara 2.0. The platform will allow passengers to book buses operated by all four state transport corporations through the application or WhatsApp services.
The app will also provide access to KSRTC and KSTDC tour packages along with digital monthly passes. The government said the integrated mobility system is aimed at creating a seamless travel experience across Karnataka.
The government also introduced the Retrofit Emission Control Device initiative for diesel vehicles to address pollution concerns. The Sainik Samman scheme was also announced as part of the government’s broader welfare agenda. These initiatives indicate a wider policy approach combining social welfare, environmental management and technology-based solutions.
Completing 100 days in office, the Karnataka government described the new measures as part of its vision for equal opportunity and inclusive development. The announcements come at a time when the Congress-led government is focusing on expanding welfare delivery and strengthening its governance model in the state.
Political observers believe the next phase will be crucial as the government’s ability to implement these schemes on the ground will determine their public impact. From housing support to digital governance and farmer assistance, the initiatives launched during the 100-day milestone are expected to shape the government’s public image in the coming months.
