New Delhi: The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has started a large-scale ‘Safe Footpath’ campaign aimed at removing encroachments from footpaths across the city. The initiative began at 10 a.m. and is being carried out in coordination with the Bengaluru Traffic Police.
The campaign will continue until July 10, targeting key arterial and sub-arterial roads that were identified during recent inspections.
The primary objective of the drive is to improve pedestrian movement by reclaiming public footpaths occupied by illegal structures and other obstructions.
Authorities believe that clearing these walkways will enhance road safety, reduce conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles, and create a more accessible urban environment.
The campaign is being conducted simultaneously across several constituencies.
In Govindaraj Nagar, officials are clearing stretches between Ganapathi Circle and Madduramma Circle, along with another section extending from BGS Ground to Shobha Hospital.
Malleswaram has also been included, with authorities focusing on a 1.5-kilometre stretch of Sampige Road. Similar operations are underway in Vijayanagar and Rajajinagar, where footpaths along major roads have been marked for clearance.
Several important roads in South Bengaluru have also been selected for the drive.
These include Dr. Vishnuvardhan Road, 80 Feet Road near R.V. Institute of Technology and Management, Kothnur Village Road, and Vishwapriya Layout Main Road.
In Padmanabhanagar, officials are removing encroachments along a section of the Outer Ring Road to improve pedestrian access.
The initiative also covers Basavanagudi, Jayanagar and BTM Layout. Roads such as DVG Road, Katriguppe Main Road, 30th Cross in Jayanagar and 14th Main Road near HSR are among the locations identified for action.
Authorities have also scheduled clearance work in Koramangala and other busy neighbourhoods where pedestrian movement is frequently affected.
Officials said the campaign will continue over the coming days, with teams working across identified locations throughout Bengaluru.
The civic body expects the initiative to improve public convenience by restoring footpaths for pedestrians while supporting safer and more organised movement across the city.
