New Delhi: The digital release prospects of Jana Nayagan, the upcoming Tamil political action thriller starring Vijay, are reportedly facing uncertainty as the film continues to struggle with delays in obtaining certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
According to industry reports, streaming platform Amazon Prime Video had acquired the film’s OTT rights for an estimated ₹120 crore. However, speculation has emerged that the deal could be reconsidered if the certification process continues to stall.
Release Plans Disrupted
The film was originally scheduled to hit theatres on January 9, 2026. However, the planned release had to be postponed after the movie failed to receive CBFC clearance in time.
The delay led the producers to seek legal intervention, and the matter eventually moved to court. Following the proceedings, the filmmakers decided to resubmit the film to the CBFC’s revising committee for fresh evaluation.
Reports suggest that a review screening was scheduled for March 9 as part of the process. However, the screening did not take place as planned and was postponed, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the film’s release timeline.
Speculation Over Digital Release
Amid the prolonged delays, film industry tracker Mukil Vardhanan recently claimed on social media that the OTT agreement with Amazon Prime Video might be at risk due to the unresolved censorship issues.
Despite the speculation, neither the streaming platform nor the producers have issued any official confirmation regarding cancellation or changes to the digital distribution deal.
Star Cast and Production Team
Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by Venkat K. Narayana under the KVN Productions banner, the film features a star-studded ensemble cast.

Alongside Vijay, the film stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju in prominent roles. The supporting cast includes Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani. The film’s technical crew includes music composer Anirudh Ravichander, cinematographer Sathyan Sooryan and editor Pradeep E. Ragav.
Awaiting Certification Decision
With the film now awaiting review by the CBFC’s revising committee, the final release date remains uncertain. Until a certification decision is made, both the theatrical release and confirmed digital streaming plans for Jana Nayagan are expected to remain on hold.
