Karnataka Suspends DGP Ramchandra Rao
Bengaluru: In a major administrative development in Karnataka, senior DGP-rank officer Ramachandra Rao has been suspended. A video of alleged inappropriate behavior in his office went viral on social media, causing a stir in the state's political and police departments. Rao is said to be the father of gold smuggling accused Ranya Rao. As the matter came to light, pressure mounted on the government to take action, leading to the suspension decision.
The viral clips allegedly show Rao hugging and kissing various women in his office while in uniform. According to sources, these scenes appear to have been secretly recorded within the DGP's office. The videos show women at different times and in different attire. However, no woman has yet made any allegations of coercion or pressure.

The controversy reached Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. After the video surfaced, the Chief Minister summoned a detailed report from the concerned department. According to sources, after watching the video, the Chief Minister expressed strong displeasure and questioned how such an incident was possible within the police headquarters. Following this, prompt administrative action was taken and the officer was suspended. This entire incident also put pressure on the Karnataka government.
On the other hand, Ramachandra Rao has categorically denied all allegations. He claimed that the viral video is completely fabricated and morphed. He said, "I am being deliberately targeted. I was posted in Belagavi eight years ago, and this matter is being portrayed as very old. We have spoken to our lawyer and are taking legal action."
Rao also said that no conclusions should be reached without an impartial investigation. He said, "This is shocking to us. This video is completely false. The truth can only be revealed after an investigation." Meanwhile, Rao has also met with the state Home Minister during the entire controversy.
A departmental inquiry is now likely in this matter. Since the matter involves the credibility of the police department and the government, everyone is closely watching the direction and outcome of the investigation. Following the suspension, questions are currently being raised in administrative circles about the veracity of the viral video and what the investigation will reveal.
