Earlier Rounds of Questioning
This will not be Vijay’s first interaction with the investigating agency. He had previously appeared before the CBI at its headquarters for questioning on January 12 and January 19.
According to officials familiar with the investigation, fresh material collected by the agency has prompted the need for additional clarification from the TVK leader. Investigators believe certain aspects of the case require further examination in light of the newly gathered evidence.
Stampede During Political Rally
The case relates to the tragic stampede that took place on September 27, 2025, during a rally attended by Vijay in Karur.
The incident resulted in 41 deaths and more than 60 injuries, making it one of the most serious crowd-related tragedies linked to a political event in recent years. The incident sparked nationwide concern and raised questions about crowd management and safety arrangements during large political gatherings.
Supreme Court Ordered CBI Probe
The investigation was transferred to the CBI after the Supreme Court of India directed the agency to take over the case from a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
The court also instructed the CBI director to appoint a senior officer to lead the probe. Additionally, a supervisory committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Ajay Rastogi was formed to monitor the progress of the investigation.

The CBI continues to collect evidence and record statements as part of its ongoing probe into the Karur stampede.
