Tamil Nadu: Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai has stepped down from the Bharatiya Janata Party’s primary membership and announced his intention to launch a new political party in the state. The development marks a major shift in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape ahead of the next electoral cycle.

BJP Confirms Resignation

The Bharatiya Janata Party officially confirmed. BJP national general secretary Arun Singh stated that party president Nitin Nabin had accepted his resignation from primary membership.

The decision comes after days of speculation regarding Annamalai’s political future, following his visit to Delhi and meetings with senior party leadership.

Meetings With Top Leadership

Ahead of his resignation, Annamalai met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi to discuss his future role and political direction. The discussions had triggered widespread speculation about a possible exit from the party and the formation of a new political platform.

Annamalai Announces New Political Movement

Soon after quitting the BJP, Annamalai addressed the public through a social media statement, confirming that he would be launching a new political party in Tamil Nadu.

He said he was leaving the BJP in a “dignified manner” and that his decision was driven by a desire to pursue “a new kind of politics.” According to him, the proposed movement would focus on inclusivity and aim to bring more people into the political process.

Annamalai also said that the new party would contest the upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu and would be built with a fresh approach from the grassroots level. He described it as a “new path” and a “new political movement” with broader goals and a long-term vision.

Political Reactions in Tamil Nadu

Reacting to his exit, Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran downplayed the impact of Annamalai’s resignation, stating that there was “no loss” for the party.

Despite this, political observers believe his departure could reshape internal dynamics within the Tamil Nadu BJP unit, especially as the state prepares for future elections.

Uncertain Political Road Ahead

While Annamalai has outlined plans for a new political outfit, further details regarding the party structure, leadership team and ideology are yet to be announced. His move is expected to intensify political activity in Tamil Nadu in the coming months.
