Hyderabad: Telangana Police has upgraded its emergency response network with Artificial Intelligence-based technology that can detect distress calls, identify panic situations and alert the nearest police teams without wasting crucial time.
The upgraded Dial 112 system can analyse caller voices, recognise sounds such as screaming, crying and fear, and provide faster assistance during emergencies. The move marks a major shift towards technology-driven policing and smarter public safety measures.
The new AI-powered system has been integrated into the Dial 112 emergency platform to improve response time during critical situations. According to police officials, the technology can analyse voice patterns during the Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) process.
If the system detects signs of distress, such as a person crying, shouting for help or panic sounds in the background, it can bypass the regular IVRS process and connect the caller directly with an emergency operator. The feature becomes especially important in situations where a victim may not be able to press buttons or clearly explain their emergency.
One of the key upgrades allows the system to identify repeated emergency calls from the same number within a short duration. Such calls can be prioritised and connected directly to emergency personnel, reducing delays during potentially life-threatening situations. The technology is designed to support faster decision-making by helping operators understand the seriousness of a situation immediately.
The upgraded system also includes advanced conversation analysis features. Once a call reaches an emergency operator, the AI system converts the conversation into text in real time. It analyses the interaction between the caller and the operator and prepares a brief summary of the incident. This helps emergency teams quickly understand the nature of the crisis and coordinate an appropriate response.
Another major feature of the upgraded Dial 112 system is advanced caller location technology. The system can identify the location of an emergency even when callers are unable to provide accurate details about where they are.
After analysing the location, type of emergency and availability of nearby response vehicles, the system can automatically share information with the closest police patrol team. This could prove crucial in cases such as accidents, crimes, medical emergencies and situations where victims are unable to communicate properly.
The integration of artificial intelligence, advanced dashboards and data analytics is part of Telangana Police’s broader push towards technology-based law enforcement.
