Farmers Get A Digital Boost As Telangana Leads Smart Agriculture Mission
Hyderabad: A new chapter in India’s agricultural transformation has begun, with Telangana emerging as the country’s top-performing state in digital farming initiatives. The state has received a Rs 175 crore incentive from the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare after achieving significant progress in implementing the Centre’s AgriStack platform.
The recognition comes at a time when India is rapidly moving towards technology-based farming solutions aimed at improving transparency, reducing delays and ensuring that government benefits reach farmers more effectively. By integrating farmer databases, land records, crop registration details and fertiliser distribution systems on a single digital platform, Telangana has created a model that could reshape the way agricultural services are delivered across the country.
AgriStack is a farmer-focused digital public infrastructure initiative launched by the Centre to create a comprehensive digital ecosystem for agriculture. The platform is designed to connect crucial agricultural information, including farmer identity details, land ownership records, crop patterns, cultivation data and service requirements.
The objective is to help governments create better policies, provide targeted financial support and deliver agricultural schemes with greater accuracy. Telangana became the first state to successfully integrate these services through a unified digital framework, earning recognition for transparent and efficient implementation.
The state earlier received Rs 424 crore during the 2025-26 financial year after completing the farmer registry process under AgriStack. The latest Rs 175 crore incentive further strengthens Telangana’s position as a national leader in digital agriculture.
One of the biggest achievements under the AgriStack initiative has been the integration of fertiliser distribution services. The Centre introduced a dedicated application to improve fertiliser management and ensure better monitoring of supply and demand.
Telangana uploaded details related to farmers’ land holdings and fertiliser requirements into the digital system and shared the data with the Union Agriculture Ministry.
Following this, fertiliser distribution was carried out through AgriStack-enabled services, allowing authorities to maintain better records and improve transparency. The digital approach is expected to reduce irregularities, prevent misuse and ensure that agricultural resources reach genuine beneficiaries.
The AgriStack initiative is part of the government’s larger Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) vision for agriculture. Through technology-based platforms, the government aims to modernise farming systems by improving access to subsidies, financial assistance, insurance schemes and agricultural services.
Under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) programme, funds are being provided to encourage states to develop digital agriculture infrastructure.
A major share of this allocation has been reserved for AgriStack-based priority services, including farmer registration and fertiliser distribution. The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in creating a data-driven agricultural ecosystem in India.
Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao welcomed the Centre’s decision and highlighted the state’s efforts in adopting digital solutions for agriculture. The minister said the successive incentives received from the Centre reflected Telangana’s progress in building a technology-based agricultural system.
The state government has maintained that digital platforms will help farmers receive faster services while improving transparency in government schemes. The achievement is being seen as a boost for Telangana’s agriculture sector and its efforts to combine technology with rural development.
For millions of farmers across India, access to timely information and government support remains a major challenge. Digital platforms like AgriStack aim to address these issues by creating a reliable database that can help authorities understand farmers’ needs more accurately.
