New Delhi: Akshaya Tritiya is widely associated with buying gold and valuables, symbolising prosperity. However, spiritual teacher Premanand Ji Maharaj has emphasised a deeper, spiritual meaning of the day.

According to him, the festival is not just about material gains but about actions that bring lasting spiritual benefits.

Date and Significance

In 2026, Akshaya Tritiya will be observed on April 19, during the Shukla Paksha Tritiya of the Vaishakh month. The term “Akshaya” signifies something that never diminishes, making it an auspicious day for good deeds.

Traditionally, people invest in gold or silver, believing it will bring long-term prosperity.

Naam Jap as the Highest Form of Donation

During a recent discourse, Premanand Ji Maharaj highlighted various forms of charity, including food, water, and monetary help. However, he described “naam jap,” or continuous chanting of God’s name, as the most powerful form of giving.

He explained that chanting creates a positive environment and can bring comfort and hope to others who hear it.

Simple Practices for the Day

The spiritual leader suggested a few mindful practices to observe on Akshaya Tritiya:

1. Maintain Silence: Limiting unnecessary conversations helps conserve energy and enhances focus on devotion.

2. Mindful Consumption: Preparing food at home and offering it before consuming is encouraged to maintain purity of thought.

3. Continuous Chanting: Chanting mantras throughout the day is believed to multiply spiritual benefits.

Alternatives to Buying Gold

For those unable to purchase gold, Maharaj said there are equally meaningful alternatives. Donating barley or offering water to those in need are considered highly auspicious acts.

He stressed that intention matters more than financial capacity, and even small acts of kindness can bring lasting merit.

Focus on Intent and Devotion

The message underscores a shift from materialism to mindful living. Akshaya Tritiya, according to Maharaj, is an opportunity to focus on inner growth, compassion, and spiritual discipline.
