New Delhi: On the fourth day of Chaitra Navratri, the worship of Goddess Kushmanda, the fourth form of Goddess Durga, is considered to be of special significance. On this day, devotees observe a fast and pray to the Goddess, seeking her blessings. It is believed that worship done with a true heart removes life's troubles and brings positive energy.

Maa Kushmanda is Primordial Power of Creation

According to religious beliefs, when darkness prevailed all around, Maa Kushmanda created the universe with her smile. For this reason, she is called the Primordial Power of Creation. Her radiance is considered to be comparable to that of the Sun, and it is said that she resides in the solar system.

Characteristics of Ashtabhuja Form

Maa Kushmanda is also known as Ashtabhuja Devi. She rides a lion and holds a kamandalu (water pot), a bow, an arrow, a lotus, a pot of nectar, a chakra, a mace, and a rosary. The rosary is considered a symbol of success and prosperity. Pumpkin is dear to the Goddess, hence her name Kushmanda.

It is believed that worshipping Goddess Kushmanda removes illness, sorrow, and suffering. Devotees are blessed with longevity, fame, strength, and excellent health. The Goddess is easily pleased with the true devotion of her devotees and fulfills all their wishes.

Worship Method and Offerings

On the fourth day of Navratri, bathe in the morning and wear clean or orange clothes. Then, install the idol of Goddess Kushmanda, meditate on her, and worship her according to the prescribed rituals. Offer lotus flowers, kumkum, rice grains, turmeric, and sandalwood to the Goddess. Light incense sticks and lamps, chant mantras, and recite the Durga Saptashati.

Offerings include malpua, petha, yogurt, and halwa. Finally, perform aarti (artis) to the Goddess and pray for the happiness and prosperity of your family.

Importance of Devotion and Faith

According to religious texts, devotion and faith are considered most important in the worship of Goddess Kushmanda. Even a little sincere devotion showers the Goddess's blessings upon her devotees and brings happiness into their lives.
