New Delhi: The eight days preceding Holi are called Holashtak. This period begins on Falgun Shukla Ashtami and continues until the full moon. According to religious beliefs and astrology, this time is not considered favorable for auspicious activities. In 2026, Holashtak begins on February 24th, and several special measures have been suggested for this.

Why is it considered inauspicious?

The planetary positions during Holashtak are considered turbulent. It is believed that auspicious events such as marriage, engagement, house warming, or the purchase of new property or vehicles should not be performed during this time. Doing so may hinder the work. Maintaining peace in the family and avoiding disputes is also considered extremely important during this period.

What to do during Holashtak?

According to religious belief, worshipping Lord Vishnu or your favorite deity during these eight days is auspicious. Reciting Hanuman Chalisa or Sunderkand brings mental peace. Lighting a Diya in the morning and evening, offering water to the Tulsi plant, and donating food and clothes to the poor are considered virtuous. One should keep the mind calm and spend time in bhajans, satsang, and positive thoughts.

Do this small remedy from February 24th

A special remedy has been suggested on the first day of Holashtak, which begins on February 24th. It is believed that lighting a ghee Diya and meditating in front of it for a while on this day increases positive energy. Afterward, chant the mantras "Om Namah Shivay" 11 times and "Om Namo Narayanaya" 11 times.

Finally, pray silently: "O Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, awaken auspicious yoga in my life."

Doing so brings signs of Raja Yoga, brings momentum to stalled tasks, and destroys negativity.

Significance of Holika Dahan

Holika Dahan is performed on the last day of Holashtak. Offering a coconut into the fire on this day removes obstacles. Also, regularly lighting a lamp and offering water near the Tulsi plant is considered beneficial.

Religiously, Holashtak is a time for self-reflection, restraint, and positive energy. If prayers and remedies are performed with devotion and faith during these days, one can attain happiness, prosperity, and auspicious results in life.
