Prayagraj: The sands of the Sangam on the sacred land of Prayagraj, the holy city of pilgrimage, are currently awash with the colors of faith, austerity, and spirituality. The grand Magh Mela is in full swing. Despite the bitter cold and dense fog, there is no sign of a waning faith among the devotees. Millions of pilgrims from across the country and abroad are arriving to bathe in the Sangam and engage in the rigorous practice of Kalpvas.

This time, the Yogi government has envisioned the Magh Mela as a rehearsal for the upcoming Mahakumbh. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is personally overseeing the arrangements. The administration's goal is to provide pilgrims with the best possible experience, safety, convenience, and cleanliness. The fair area has been equipped with modern technology and robust infrastructure.

The Unique Colors of Kalpvas and Faith

Along with the saints and sages, householders are also observing strict fasts and rituals on the banks of the Sangam. Approximately 2 million Kalpvasis will remain engaged in restraint, austerity, and spiritual practice until February 1st. Unique scenes of devotion are being witnessed at the fair, where not only humans but even animals and birds appear immersed in devotion.

Impenetrable security from ground to sky

In view of the massive crowd of devotees, stringent security arrangements have been made. Over 10,000 police personnel, 17 temporary police stations, and 42 police outposts have been set up. A 24x7 surveillance is being maintained by ATS teams, snipers, and drones to ensure no lapses occur.

Fair area equipped with high-tech facilities

This year, the Magh Mela is witnessing a clear display of technology. Devotees can access their location and essential amenities by scanning QR codes placed on electric poles. Nine pontoon bridges have been constructed, while separate arrangements are in place for pedestrians. For the first time, tourism facilities such as helicopter service and paragliding have also been introduced.

Major Bathing Festivals and Devotees' Preparations

Millions of devotees are expected to arrive for major bathing festivals like Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya, and Vasant Panchami. The administration has extended the length of the bathing ghats to approximately 3 kilometers to manage the crowds.

A 44-Day Festival of Faith, Concluding on Mahashivratri

This religious event, which began on Paush Purnima, will last for 44 days and conclude with Mahashivratri on February 15. Amidst chants of "Har Har Gange," a divine atmosphere, and robust arrangements, this Magh Mela is poised to become historic.
