New Delhi: India’s explosive opener Abhishek Sharma has created history in T20 International cricket by recording the most sixes in a calendar year. The left-handed batter moved past Suryakumar Yadav’s previous record of 68 sixes, taking his tally to 69 in 2026.
Sharma achieved the milestone during the fourth T20I against the West Indies when he hit Shamar Springer for a six in the ninth over. The achievement further underlines his reputation as one of the most aggressive batters in the shortest format.

The young opener has continued to deliver power-packed performances since making his international debut. He has already struck 102 sixes in just 68 T20I innings, highlighting his ability to clear the boundary consistently.
Abhishek Sharma now leads the list with 69 sixes in 2026, followed by Suryakumar Yadav, who hit 68 in 2022. Sharma also recorded 54 sixes in 2025, while Ishan Kishan has hit 52 in 2026. Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan completes the top five with 45 sixes in 2025.
Despite Sharma’s record-breaking achievement, India suffered a 24-run defeat in the fourth T20I. Chasing a massive target, India struggled to maintain momentum after the early dismissal of the opener.
Sharma managed 29 runs off 24 deliveries, while Sanju Samson provided resistance with a quickfire 56. However, regular wickets prevented India from building the partnerships required to complete the chase.

While India will aim to bounce back, Sharma’s record has added another milestone to his rapidly growing T20I career.
