BCCI Dismisses Rohit Sharma Retirement Rumours Ahead of Lord’s ODI (Img: Dynamite)
New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dismissed reports suggesting that Rohit Sharma will retire from One-Day Internationals after the third ODI against England at Lord’s.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said there has been no discussion regarding Rohit’s retirement and confirmed that the experienced opener remains a regular member of India’s ODI squad.
While rejecting claims that Lord’s would be Rohit’s farewell match, Saikia did not comment on the veteran batter’s prospects for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

He said Rohit would continue representing India in ODIs as long as he remains in the team’s plans, making it clear that the upcoming match is not being viewed as his final appearance.
Speculation intensified after media reports claimed the Indian team management was looking to build a younger squad for the 2027 World Cup and that Rohit was no longer part of the long-term roadmap.
The reports suggested young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal could be given an extended run, fuelling rumours that Rohit’s ODI career was nearing its end.
Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin criticised the reported handling of the situation, saying any decision regarding a senior player should be communicated clearly and well in advance. He argued that uncertainty over a veteran cricketer’s future could have been avoided with better communication.
With the three-match ODI series against England level heading into the final game at Lord’s on July 19, Rohit will now look to answer his critics with a strong performance after modest scores in the opening two matches.
