BCCI has reportedly rejected Team India players’ request to stay with family members during the T20 World Cup 2026, citing existing policy rules. The decision comes amid the tournament, where India has already secured its first win.

Players’ Demand Turned Down Amid Tournament
New Delhi: The Indian cricket team has received a setback during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reportedly rejected a request from players regarding family stay arrangements.
According to media reports, the Indian team, led by captain Suryakumar Yadav, had asked the board to allow players to stay with their family members during the tournament. However, BCCI decided to continue with its existing policy and denied the request.
Reports suggest that the team management had specifically sought clarity from the board on whether players could stay with their wives, fiancées, or girlfriends during the tournament. The request was reportedly discussed internally, but BCCI refused to grant permission.
Although the board has not issued any official statement regarding the matter, sources indicate that players are not allowed to have their partners stay with them during the tournament. However, players may make separate personal arrangements outside the team environment if they wish to meet their families.
The decision is believed to be linked to a policy introduced by BCCI following India’s heavy 1-3 defeat against Australia in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. After the series loss, the board introduced stricter rules regarding family stays during international tours.
Under the policy, players’ families are allowed to stay with them only for up to 14 days, and that too only if the overseas tour lasts 45 days or longer. Since the T20 World Cup 2026 does not meet these criteria and is also being held in India, the board has decided to enforce the same rule.
Despite the controversy, Team India has made a strong start in the T20 World Cup 2026. The team won its opening match comfortably by defeating the United States by 29 runs. The victory has boosted team confidence early in the tournament.
India is scheduled to play its next match against Namibia on February 12. Meanwhile, excitement has increased among fans after Pakistan withdrew its earlier boycott decision.
As a result, the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan clash has been officially confirmed and will take place on February 15, making it one of the most awaited matches of the tournament.
