Why Was the Fine Imposed?

After the match, Iyer faced a major setback when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the IPL Committee imposed a fine of ₹12 lakh on him.

The reason for this was a "slow over-rate"—specifically, the failure to complete the allotted 20 overs within the stipulated time limit.

According to IPL regulations, it is the captain's responsibility to ensure that the team completes its overs within the designated time frame. In this instance, Iyer's team fell behind schedule.

What Do the IPL Rules Say?

Under the IPL Code of Conduct:

First Offense: A fine of ₹12 lakh on the captain.

Second Offense: A fine of ₹24 lakh, plus penalties imposed on the other players in the team.

Third Offense: A one-match ban for the captain.

As this was Iyer's first offense of the season, he is required to pay the fine of ₹12 lakh.
