Delhi-born Nikhil Chaudhary earns maiden Australia T20I call-up (Img: Internet)
New Delhi: Australian cricket selectors have called up Delhi-born Nikhil Chaudhary to make his maiden appearance in the national T20 international side. He has been selected for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh.
The left-handed batting all-rounder will join the squad for the Bangladesh series after batsman Travis Head pulled out of the tour due to injury. Chaudhary is expected to join the team in time for the series, with the opener to be played in Chattogram on June 17.

Chaudhary earned his call-up based on his strong performances in Australian domestic cricket. Chaudhary plays for the Tasmanian side in domestic matches and competes for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL).
As per Cricket Australia selector Tony Dodemaide, the player had been in the selectors' radar for quite some time. Chaudhary had also trained with Australia's white ball players in preparation for their games.
While introducing the inclusion Tony Dodemaide said that over the past couple of years, he has done exceptionally well for Tasmania, including last year in the BBL.
The Delhi-born cricketer has played in India before moving to Australia. Over the years, he has played club cricket. He has also featured in various state leagues, emerging as an all-rounder who bats left-handed and bowls leg-spinners.
Chaudhary has gained recognition due to his strong performances in the BBL and Sheffield Shield tournaments. If picked in the playing XI, Nikhil Chaudhary would go down in the record books.
According to media reports, he will become the first India born player to represent Australia in over six decades. Bangladesh series will be led by Mitchell Marsh. The T20Is are to be played on June 17, 19 and 21 at Chattogram.
