New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s squads for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England, along with the team for the Asian Games.

The selection has sparked major discussion after several high-profile changes, including Shreyas Iyer’s appointment as captain and the exclusion of Suryakumar Yadav.

Shreyas Iyer Takes Over T20I Leadership

In one of the biggest decisions ahead of the tour, Shreyas Iyer has officially been handed the responsibility of leading India’s T20 side. The move signals a fresh direction for the team as the selectors look to build a stable core ahead of future ICC events.

Iyer’s consistent performances in domestic cricket and the IPL reportedly played a key role in his elevation to captaincy.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Earns First Senior India Call-Up

The spotlight, however, has firmly shifted to 15-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The youngster has been rewarded for his sensational IPL campaign and impressive outings for India U-19.

Vaibhav scored 776 runs in just 16 innings during the IPL season, emerging as one of the most talked-about young talents in Indian cricket. His aggressive batting and composure under pressure convinced selectors to include him in the senior setup.

Suryakumar Yadav Left Out

Another major talking point from the squad announcement is the omission of Suryakumar Yadav. Despite previously captaining India and playing a key role in the team’s T20 World Cup success, the star batter has failed to maintain consistency with the bat in recent months.

The selectors appear to have prioritized current form and long-term planning while naming the squad.

Hardik Pandya Also Missing

Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya was another notable absentee from the T20 squad. While no official clarification has been provided, reports suggest the management could be managing his workload ahead of future assignments.

Asian Games Squad Announced

The BCCI also confirmed the squad for the upcoming Asian Games. Shreyas Iyer will captain the side there as well, while Tilak Varma has been appointed vice-captain. Jasprit Bumrah replaces Mohammed Siraj and Prince Yadav in the only major change from the England and Ireland squads.
