New Delhi: Former India T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav has firmly dismissed viral claims suggesting he was upset over his omission from India’s ongoing T20 tour of England and the decision to hand the captaincy to Shreyas Iyer.
As discussions around India’s squad transition gathered momentum, a statement widely shared on social media alleged that Suryakumar felt ignored by the selectors and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The experienced batter has now clarified that the statement was fabricated and did not originate from him.
Ahead of India’s third T20I against England at Trent Bridge, Suryakumar issued a public clarification urging fans not to trust or circulate unverified content.
He stated that he had neither made nor authorised the statement being shared online and requested people to avoid spreading misinformation. The batter added that his support for Indian cricket, his teammates and the sport remains unchanged.
Despite missing out on the current squad, Suryakumar expressed his confidence in the team and wished the players success during the England series.
He said the squad is giving its best and assured the young group of his full backing. He also extended encouragement to emerging talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, underlining his support for India’s ongoing transition towards a younger T20 side.
India are currently trailing in the five-match T20I series after suffering defeat in the opening contest. The team management has continued to prioritise young players as part of its preparations for the next ICC tournament.
Suryakumar’s clarification comes at a time when discussions over senior players and squad selection remain a major talking point.
Although he is no longer part of the current T20 setup, Suryakumar has not indicated any plans to retire from international cricket.
The 35-year-old has scored 3,272 runs in 113 T20 internationals and remains one of India’s most accomplished batters in the format. While competition for places has intensified, his latest statement made it clear that his focus remains on supporting Indian cricket rather than engaging with speculation surrounding his future.
