Nagoya-Aichi: India’s campaign at the Asian Games 2026 produced a major breakthrough as the women’s recurve archery team defeated South Korea 5-3 to win a historic gold medal. Ankita Bhakat, Kirti Sharma and Kumkum Mohod held their nerve in challenging conditions to beat the defending champions.
The victory marked India’s maiden Asian Games gold in the women’s recurve team event. The trio had earlier defeated China 5-1 in the semifinal to reach the final.

Indian hockey also remained in the spotlight, with the men’s team securing a place in the gold-medal match after a dramatic 4-3 semifinal victory over Pakistan. Abhishek scored the decisive goal with just 45 seconds remaining, sending India through to the final.
The Indian women’s hockey team was also scheduled to face China in the final, with the gold medal and LA 2028 Olympic qualification at stake.
India also entered several boxing finals, with Lovlina Borgohain, Parveen and Ankush Panghal scheduled to fight for gold in their respective categories. The boxing bouts added to a packed medal schedule for the Indian contingent.
India had 64 medals — 10 gold, 22 silver and 32 bronze — early on October 2, according to the Times of India live updates. Later reports said the tally had risen to 66 medals, including 10 gold, 23 silver and 33 bronze.
With archery, hockey, boxing, wrestling and other disciplines producing medal opportunities, India’s campaign remains closely watched as the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games enter their final stages.
