Nagoya-Aichi: India created history at the 2026 Asian Games as the women’s recurve archery team secured the country’s first-ever gold medal in the event. The Indian trio defeated powerhouse South Korea 5-3 in a high-pressure final.
Ankita Bhakat, Kirti and Kumkum Anil Mohod delivered a composed performance to overcome South Korea, widely regarded as one of the strongest forces in international archery. The victory marked a major milestone for India, which had never previously won the women’s recurve team gold at the Asian Games.
The final remained closely contested, with both teams trading points during the opening stages. India stayed in contention despite the pressure before producing the decisive performance needed to close out the match.
The Indian team had to deal with the challenge of a South Korean side featuring world-class archers. Despite the reputation and experience of their opponents, the Indian trio maintained their composure through the crucial stages of the contest.
India’s 5-3 victory ensured that the women’s recurve team event would have a new Asian Games champion. The result also adds another landmark achievement to India’s growing record in international archery.
The archery triumph came during a productive day for the Indian contingent at the Asian Games in Japan. According to Akashvani, India’s overall medal tally had reached 66 medals, including 10 gold, 23 silver and 33 bronze.
