Aichi-Nagoya, Japan: The Indian men’s hockey team produced a stunning attacking display at the Asian Games 2026, defeating Sri Lanka 16-1 in a one-sided encounter on Tuesday. India dominated the match from the opening whistle, with Jugraj Singh emerging as the star performer after scoring four goals.
The victory showcased India’s attacking strength as the team continued its impressive campaign at the continental tournament.
Mandeep Singh opened the scoring for India in the fifth minute before Jugraj Singh doubled the lead with a goal in the 10th minute. Abhishek then added another goal in the 11th minute, while Harmanpreet Singh and Abhishek extended India’s advantage with further strikes as Sri Lanka struggled to contain the Indian attack.
Jugraj scored again in the 22nd minute, followed by goals from Sukhjeet Singh and Dilpreet Singh towards the end of the second quarter, giving India a commanding lead.
India maintained their pressure after halftime with Manpreet Singh and Vivek Sagar Prasad finding the net to further increase the margin. Dilpreet Singh scored again in the 38th minute, while Jugraj completed his hat-trick in the 42nd minute. Harmanpreet Singh added another goal shortly after to keep India firmly in control.
Sri Lanka managed to score their only goal of the match through Madushan Herath in the 34th minute, but it did little to change the outcome.
In the final quarter, Abhishek scored in the 49th minute, while Jugraj Singh completed his fourth goal of the match in the 53rd minute. Dilpreet Singh then completed his hat-trick in the 55th minute as India sealed a massive 16-1 victory.
The emphatic win underlined India’s attacking depth and sent a strong message to their opponents as the team continues its Asian Games 2026 hockey campaign.
