New Delhi: A new threat has now arisen in front of cricket leagues running around the world. This threat is Saudi Arabia's proposed Super-T20 League, which can cause extreme damage to popular leagues like the IPL and The Hundred, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
To deal with this challenge, India and England have already started making strategies. The cricket boards of both countries, BCCI and ECB, have come together to oppose this new league.
India and England will not give NOC to the players
According to the report of British newspaper 'The Guardian,' BCCI and ECB have taken a tough stand on this new Arab League. During the World Test Championship Final held at Lord's, a meeting was held between the top officials of both boards, in which it was decided that they will not support this league and will not issue NOCs (No Objection Certificates) to their players to play in it.
Along with this, both the boards together will also put pressure on the International Cricket Council (ICC) not to give any official recognition to this league.
Australia takes different path
While India and England are opposing this league, Cricket Australia (CA) is in support of it. According to the report, Australia is ready to partner with Saudi investors in this league.
This is an opportunity for Australia to include private investment in its cricket structure, because right now the Big Bash League (BBL) is completely under the control of Cricket Australia and state associations.
League of Billions, format like Grand Slam
This league of Saudi Arabia is being planned by a company named SRJ Sports Investments, which is ready to invest about 400 million dollars (about ₹3442 crores) in this project.
This league will have 8 teams, which will play four tournaments at different places every year. Its structure will be like Grand Slam tournaments of tennis.
Due to such a unique format and heavy investment, this league can become a serious challenge for the existing cricket leagues. This is the reason why BCCI and ECB have already taken the lead and have made preparations to stop this league.
