Hyderabad: Lucknow Super Giants registered their first win of the IPL 2026 season with a hard-fought five-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad on Sunday. Chasing 157, LSG reached 160/5 in 19.5 overs, Rishabh Pant sealed the chase in style smashing three boundaries in the last over.

Pant anchors chase after early collapse

The chase did not begin smoothly for LSG, with early wickets putting them under pressure. Mitchell Marsh fell for 14, while the middle order struggled to build momentum. However, Pant held one end firmly, playing a captain’s knock under pressure.

Pant scored 68* off 50 deliveries, striking nine boundaries and pacing the innings smartly. Despite losing partners at regular intervals, including Ayush Badoni (12), Nicholas Pooran (1), and Abdul Samad (16), he ensured LSG stayed in the hunt till the final over.

Aiden Markram provided brief support with a fluent 45 off 27 balls before being dismissed, leaving Pant to finish the job.

SRH bowlers strike early but fail to close

SRH made early inroads, with Lasith Malinga (namesake bowler in squad) removing Marsh to give the hosts momentum. However, they failed to capitalise in the death overs as Pant took control.

Klaasen, Reddy rescue SRH after collapse

Earlier, SRH posted 156/9 after a shaky start. Their top order collapsed under disciplined bowling, but Heinrich Klaasen (62) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (56) stitched a crucial partnership to revive the innings.

Their efforts helped SRH reach a competitive total, but once both were dismissed, the lower order failed to add significant runs.

LSG bowlers deliver all-round effort

LSG’s bowling unit shared the workload effectively. Mohammed ShamiPrince Yadav, and Avesh Khan picked up two wickets each, keeping SRH in check throughout the innings.

In the end, Pant’s calm finishing ensured LSG crossed the line, sealing a morale-boosting win in a tightly contested encounter.
