New Delhi: India produced a breathtaking batting performance in the final of the 2026 Under-19 World Cup, putting itself in a commanding position against England. Riding on a sensational innings by 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Team India posted the highest-ever total in an Under-19 World Cup final, leaving England with an almost impossible chase.

India posts record-breaking total

Batting first in the title clash, India piled up a massive 411 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 50 overs. It is the biggest score ever recorded in the history of Under-19 World Cup finals. With this, England now needs 412 runs to lift the trophy — a target widely considered out of reach in a high-pressure final.

The foundation of this extraordinary total was laid by a fearless and explosive approach from the Indian batters, led by a once-in-a-generation knock from Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s unforgettable knock

Vaibhav Suryavanshi stole the show with a stunning innings of 175 runs, playing one of the most destructive knocks ever seen at the Under-19 level. He reached his century in just 55 balls and went on to score 175 off only 80 deliveries. His innings was packed with power and precision, featuring 15 sixes and 15 fours.

Remarkably, Vaibhav scored around 150 runs purely through boundaries, underlining the dominance he displayed throughout his time at the crease. His fearless hitting completely dismantled England’s bowling attack and turned the final into a one-sided contest.

World records tumble in the final

At just 14 years of age, Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name into the record books. He became the fastest centurion in the history of Under-19 World Cup finals. Additionally, his hundred is now the second-fastest overall in Under-19 World Cup history. While Australia’s Will Malajuk still holds the record for the fastest century in the tournament, the final’s fastest hundred now belongs to Vaibhav.

He also became only the third Indian to score a century in an Under-19 World Cup final, joining elite company alongside Unmukt Chand (2012) and Manjot Kalra (2018).

Strong support from the middle order

India’s innings had a shaky start with the first wicket falling at 20 runs, as Aaron George departed early. However, Vaibhav and captain Ayush Mhatre steadied the innings with a crucial 142-run partnership. Mhatre contributed a solid 53 off 51 balls, striking seven fours and two sixes.

Further contributions came from Vedant Trivedi (32), Vihan Malhotra (30), wicketkeeper Abhigyan Kundu (40), and Kanishk Chauhan, who remained unbeaten on a brisk 37 off 20 balls. These efforts ensured India maintained momentum throughout the innings.

England bowlers struggle under pressure

England’s bowlers found it difficult to contain the Indian batters. Sebastian Morgan picked up two wickets while conceding 74 runs in nine overs. Alex Green claimed two wickets as well, but went for 49 runs in five overs. James Minto was the most successful bowler with three wickets, though he too was expensive, giving away 63 runs.

India on the brink of glory

With a record-breaking total on the board and England facing a daunting chase, India stands just a step away from lifting the Under-19 World Cup. Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s historic innings may well go down as one of the greatest performances in youth World Cup history.
