Harare: The interim head coach of India, VVS Laxman, has lauded the composure, adaptability, and keenness to learn of 15-year-old batsman Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who delivered an innings that won the match for India in the third T20 International cricket match between India and Zimbabwe.
The left-handed youngster batted sensibly and scored 81 runs off 49 balls with eight fours and four sixes to help India post 192/5, and the team went on to win by 35 runs and win the series 3-0. His exceptional performances in the series helped him get the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards after scoring 151 runs in the series.
Commenting after the match, Laxman stated that the biggest strength of Sooryavanshi is his hunger to learn from each and every match and practice session.
Laxman pointed out that Sooryavanshi's batting performance was special due to the fact that he played on a slow and old wicket where the ball wasn't coming on the bat.
Instead of just playing aggressive shots, the teen adjusted to his situation, paced well and accelerated at the right moments. He managed to get his fifty in just 31 deliveries and finished with an SR of more than 165.
Laxman also disclosed the fact that Zimbabwe had made certain plans for Sooryavanshi as a result of his brilliant displays during previous games of the series.
According to Laxman, Sooryavanshi had successfully identified the strategies of his opposition and adjusted to them.
In previous games of the series, Sooryavanshi had hit a 19-deliveries fifty, and thus, his careful knock in the third game was yet another instance of the same.
