High-time to Take Actions

SURABHI

New Delhi. There is no denying the fact that an array of measures have been taken by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to facilitate frequency of the metro rails and increase capacity.  Also, it is indeed appreciable that DMRC is spreading its tracks to cover wider areas of the NCR region and beyond.  However, there is one significant facet, which needs to be addressed on an ASAP basis. The burning issue that we are talking about here is the problem of ever increasing crowd in metro compartments.

Crowd-control Measures: Need of the Hour
With the Delhi metro route map stretching out to larger areas, it is obvious that the occupancy percentage will increase and so will the crowd. This much-talked about transport system has garnered accolades for sheer punctuality, efficiency and increasing spread across the national capital as well as nearby areas. DMRC is now in the buzz for all the wrong reasons, the highlight being, over crowded coaches 24X7. The question of the hour is that Is Delhi’s lifeline starting to collapse under its ever-increasing weight?

The AC that Won’t Work during Rabbling Hours
Circumstances slant further towards catastrophic consequences when the air conditioner in the metro compartments doesn’t work during rush hours. It becomes suffocating and claustrophobic to commute in such circumstances. Result of a recent survey conducted by the team of Dynamite News team has revealed that over 50 percent commuters of Delhi Metro have faced the shutting down problem of ACs.

Chief PRO of DMRC, Anuj Dayal, was quoted saying that increase in population in the city has led to over-crowding, especially at transit stations. He further said that the upcoming Phase III will clear this rush up to a considerable extent. However, it will take around 3 years in the completion of this phase if sources are to be believed. With the burgeoning rabble in metro, it is high time that DMRC took serious actions to curtail and manage the crowd.
