General Elections 2024: First phase voting for 102 LS seats underway; Vote count on June 4

New Delhi: The voting, under first of the seven phases, for 102 Lok Sabha seats in 17 States and 4 Union Territories (UTs) began this morning at a rather slow pace. 

Simultaneously, voting for 2 State Assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh (60 seats) and Sikkim (32 seats) is also taking place, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

The 102 Lok Sabha seats are spread over in various states including all seats of Tamil Nadu (39), Uttarakhand (5), Arunachal Pradesh (2), Meghalaya (2), Andaman and Nicobar Islands (1), Mizoram (1), Manipur (2), Nagaland (1), Puducherry (1), Sikkin (1) and Lakshadweep (1).

Besides, polling is also taking place for 12 seats in Rajasthan, 8 in UP, 6 in MP, 4 in Bihar, 3 in Bengal, 5 seats each in Assam and Maharastra, and one each in Tripura, J&K, and Chhattisgarh. 

This General Election 2024 is slated to take place in 7 phases and is spread over 40 days with the last phase on June 1. The voters will exercise their right to vote for the Lok Sabha and 4 Assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha.

Phase 1: April 19
  102 LS seats 
  2 Assemblies: Arunachal Pradesh (60 seats), Sikkim (32 seats)

Phase 2: April 26
   89 LS seats

Phase 3: May 7
   94 LS seats

Phase 4: May 13
   96 LS seats     
   2 Assemblies: Andhra Pradesh (175 seats), 
   Odisha (147 seats - in 4 phases) 
  (Note: Odisha Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in 4   phases from May 13 to June 1).

Phase 5: May 20
    49 LS seats
    1 Assembly: Odisha (147 seats - in 4 phases)

Phase 6: May 25 
    57 seats 
    1 Assembly: Odisha (147 seats - in 4 phases)

Phase 7: June 1
    57 LS seats
    1 Assembly: Odisha (147 seats - in 4 phases)
   
Voting Pattern: 
During this General Elections 2024, India will vote in 3 ways
1. Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs): There are this time over 55 lakh EVMs. Most of the voters will vote through EVMs.
2. Postal Ballot: Over 19 lakh service personnel and those who are on poll duty will vote through Postal Ballot.
3. From Home: This is introduced for the first time in Lok Sabha polls for those who are 85 years and above. 

The counting of votes for all the 7 phases will take place on June 1.
