New Delhi: The central government has delivered a jolt to the common man’s budget, hiking petrol and diesel prices by ₹2 per litre, effective from April 8, 2025, according to an official notification issued by the Ministry of Finance on Monday.

The increase will push fuel prices upward across the country, adding to inflationary concerns and transportation costs.

This excise duty increase comes amid global oil price fluctuations and rising tensions over Trump’s tariffs across the globe.

How is it going to affect consumers?

Vegetable, goods prices likely to climb further as tranportation cost increases. Daily commuters face heavier fuel bills. Experts warn of more hikes if crude prices stay high

The last hike came just before state elections in May. This marks the third fuel price revision this year. Opposition leaders have called it "anti-poor", while economists see it as inevitable given rising import costs.
