Lok Sabha Election 2024: BJP forms 15-member poll panel

Kolkata: The West Bengal unit of the BJP on Tuesday formed a 15-member election management committee ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The core members of the committee include Union Home Minister Amit Shah, party chief JP Nadda and other leaders from the state.
The committee on Tuesday held a meeting in Kolkata to discuss the upcoming polls. Amit Shah and JP Nadda arrived in Kolkata on Tuesday where they were welcomed by party members at the airport.
The core members of the committee are: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP chief JP Nadda, state party chief Sukanta Majumdar, MP Dilip Ghosh, Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari, Rahul Sinha, Amitabh Chakraborty, Satish Dhand, Mangal Pandey and Asha Lockra.
The committee also has five general secretaries, including MP Locket Chatterjee, MLA from Asansol South Agnimitra Paul, Jagannath Chatterjee, Jatirmoy Singh Mahat and Deepak Burman.
There are 42 Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal. In 2019, the Trinamool Congress won 22 seats but faced stiff competition from the BJP, which won 18 seats. The remaining two seats went to Congress.
For the upcoming polls, Amit Shah has set the target to win 35 out of the 42 seats and will discuss strategies with party members ahead of the new year. (Agencise)
