UP Urban Civic Poll: Fate of 10 mayors, 820 councilors, 103 municipal council presidents to be decided today; voting continues

In the first phase of the urban body elections in Uttar Pradesh, polling is going on in 37 districts of nine mandals amid tight security. Must read updates of voting on Dynamite News:



Lucknow: The first phase polling of urban civic elections in the state is underway in 37 districts to elect 10 mayors, 820 councillors, 103 municipal council presidents, and 2,740 council members.  

More than 2.40 crore voters will be able to exercise their franchise. Several companies of police and paramilitary forces have been deployed for polling.

In the first phase, more than 44 thousand candidates are trying their luck for a total of 7,593 posts, including 10 mayors and 820 councilors, 103 municipal council presidents, 2,740 municipal council members, 275 town panchayat presidents and 3,645 town panchayat members. 

For today's polling, 19,880 inspector-sub-inspectors, 1,01,477 head constables-constables, 47,985 home guards, 86 companies of PAC, 35 companies of CAPFs and 7,500 trainee sub-inspectors have been deployed to maintain law and order.

The second phase polling will take place on May 11, while counting of votes will be done on May 13, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
