Uphaar tragedy: Non-bailable warrant issued against Ansal brothers
A Delhi court on Tuesday issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against real estate tycoons Gopal Ansal and Sushil Ansal for allegedly tampering with evidence in connection with the 1997 Uphaar fire tragedy.
New Delhi: A Delhi court on Tuesday issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against real estate tycoons Gopal Ansal and Sushil Ansal for allegedly tampering with evidence in connection with the 1997 Uphaar fire tragedy.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Patiala House Court, Deepak Sehrawat, issued the NBW to the Ansal brothers. The NBW was issued against the duo due to their non-appearance before the court.
Meanwhile, lawyers for the Ansal brothers approached the court for cancellation of the NBW. The court is likely to hear the plea on Wednesday (March 26).
The court is hearing the case related to alleged tampering of evidence after chairperson of the Association of Victims of Uphaar Tragedy (AVUT), Neelam Krishnamoorthy, who lost her two children in the tragedy, called for the early resolution of the matter.
She has been fighting on behalf of the victims' families for over 20 years now.
Up to 59 people died and more than 100 were injured in the subsequent stampede in Uphaar Cinema in south Delhi's Green Park area after a fire broke out during the screening of Hindi movie 'Border' on June 13, 1997. (ANI)
