Uttar Pradesh: Five drowned as car plunges into canal in Etah; Bodies sent for postmortem

Etah: Five persons, including four members of a family, were killed after a car plunged into a canal in Etah district here in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Monday.

Police sources said that the incident took place late on Sunday night when Vinita, a resident of Adaura village under the Ganj Dundwara area in Kasganj district, was being taken to the district hospital in Etah for treatment. "According to the family members around midnight the car plunged into Jirasmi Wali canal, a subsidiary of Kali river," they said.

The family members of the deceased searched for them all through the night as the victim could not be contacted after several efforts. "On Monday morning they received information that a car was found in the canal after which the police were informed," they said.

The car was pulled out from the canal with the help of a crane after police reached the spot. "Five persons, including Vinita, her husband Neeraj, Tejendra, Santosh and car driver Shubham, were killed in the incident. The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination," Police said.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dhananjay Singh said that five persons, including the driver, were killed in the incident. He said that the police reached the spot in the morning after getting the information and the car and the bodies were pulled out of the canal. (UNI)
