S.P. Velumani Holds Parallel Inauguration of G.D. Naidu Bridge
Coimbatore: A day after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin officially inaugurated Asia’s biggest flyover – the G.D. Naidu Bridge – in Coimbatore with much fanfare, the city witnessed yet another grand event at the same location.
This time, it was a parallel celebration led by AIADMK strongman of the Kongu region, former minister, and current Thondamuthur MLA S.P. Velumani, who was cheered by thousands of supporters in a symbolic "inauguration" rally organized by the AIADMK.
The victory rally commenced at 11:30 AM and concluded at 1:30 PM, causing traffic disruptions on one side of the road for nearly an hour due to the large crowd gathered.

AIADMK cadres were seen enthusiastically stating, “An opening ceremony should be like this!” referring to the celebratory nature of the event.
They credited S.P. Velumani, under the leadership of then CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami, for initiating the project, securing central government funds, and completing nearly 60% of the work. The remaining portion, they claimed, took the DMK government four years to finish.
The rally was marked by:
Heavy public turnout
Local assembly members standing alongside their leader
Party functionaries and volunteers raising slogans
Distribution of sweets to the public
A festive and politically charged atmosphere
As the rally concluded, S.P. Velumani, accompanied by his carcade, addressed a press conference, where he presented project details and data, reaffirming AIADMK’s contribution to the bridge’s development.
The event showcased AIADMK’s attempt to reclaim political credit for the G.D. Naidu Bridge and mobilize support in the Kongu region, signaling intensified political competition in Tamil Nadu’s western belt.
