Apple Shuts Down Older Models to Make Way for Next-Gen Devices
New Delhi: Apple refreshes its product portfolio every year, gradually discontinuing older or less popular models. The year 2025 was particularly significant in this regard, as the company discontinued not just one or two, but a total of 25 popular products. All of these have been replaced by newer, more powerful models with advanced features.
The biggest decision of 2025 concerned the iPhone SE series. Apple has completely discontinued this affordable iPhone lineup. The iPhone SE has now been replaced by the new iPhone 16e, which comes with a modern design and new features. This also signals Apple's move away from phones with older designs.

This year, both the iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 15 Plus were discontinued. According to reports, the same decision may be made for the iPhone 16 Plus in the future. Apple is now focusing more on the ultra-thin iPhone Air instead of the Plus models, which features a lightweight design and a premium look.
In 2025, Apple said goodbye to a total of seven iPhone models. These include the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro, which have been replaced by the iPhone 17 Pro series. In addition, the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone SE have also been officially discontinued by the company.
Apple has also made significant changes to the iPad series. This year, the iPad Pro with the M4 chip, the iPad Air with the M2 chip, and the 10th generation iPad were discontinued. Although there weren't many design changes, the new iPads were launched with faster and more powerful chipsets.
Several models were also removed from the Apple Watch lineup in 2025. Apple has discontinued the Apple Watch Ultra 2, Apple Watch Series 10, and Apple Watch SE 2. These have been replaced by the Apple Watch Series 11, which has been launched in several markets, including India.

In the Mac segment, Apple has discontinued older models after introducing new configurations. The Mac Studio with M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips has been retired. Additionally, the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M4 chip and the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models with the M3 chip have also been discontinued. The older M2-based 13-inch MacBook Air has also been removed from the lineup.
These decisions clearly indicate that Apple is now focusing more on new chipsets, lighter designs, and a premium user experience. These changes, made in 2025, reflect the company's long-term strategy, which no longer has room for older models.
