New Delhi: Instagram is preparing to provide a more personalized experience for its users. The company has begun testing a new feature, “Your Algorithm,” which will allow users to decide what to see in their feed, especially Reels. Instagram head Adam Mosseri shared details about this feature on Threads.

Mosseri explained that this new update will give users complete control over their feeds. They will not only be able to choose their favorite topics but also remove content they don’t want to see. This feature is currently being tested in the Reels section, but there are plans to roll it out to the Explore tab and Threads in the future.

 ‘Your Algorithm’ Section

A new section called ‘Your Algorithm’ will soon be added to Instagram’s settings. Here, users will be able to see a list of topics based on which content is recommended to them. These topics can also be managed or edited.

According to Adam Mosseri’s example, this section will reflect your interaction patterns—such as content related to luxury watches, fashion week, stand-up comedy, music concerts, or artists. If desired, users can add new topics or choose to see less content related to a topic by pressing the ‘Add+’ button.

However, this feature is currently in testing and is available to only a select few users. Instagram plans to gradually roll it out on a larger scale.

Meta’s Larger Strategy

This new feature is part of Meta’s broader strategy to promote customization and transparency across its apps—Facebook, Instagram, and Threads.

Recently, Instagram also launched features like Sensitive Content Control, Suggested Posts Refinement, and Parental Tools to give users more control over their digital experience.

Mosseri said the company is constantly gathering feedback from users to improve this feature. He added that it’s unclear when this feature will be available to all users.

Personal And Secure Experience

This move by Instagram is considered to take personalization on social media to a new level. Now, users will not only like or scroll through content, but will also be able to choose what they want to see next.

Experts believe this update will differentiate Instagram from other social media platforms and increase both trust and engagement among users.
