Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav will contest the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections from Mainpuri’s Karhal constituency, informed sources on Thursday.
Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls scheduled for next year, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Sunday said that the party would hold a ‘Brahmin Sammelan’ on July 23 in Ayodhya.
“The decision of the public is very well accepted by the Samajwadi Party. We wish all the best to the upcoming government in the state,” he said adding, “I am very happy that we formed an alliance with the Congress.
The governor has accepted his resignation and has asked him to continue till further arrangements.
Mayawati said the Election Commission should stop the counting and withhold results and hold fresh polls using traditional paper ballots.
Adityanath said that the people of Uttar Pradesh have voted for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s agenda of development, adding the early trends clearly puts forth the hard work put in by the BJP workers.
BJP workers raised slogans like “Chappa Chappa Bhajpa”, “Kahan pade ho chakkar mein, koi nahin hai takkar mein” and “Modi Modi”.
BJP candidates led in 46 of the 73 seats where counting trends were available, followed in 20 seats by the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance.
The Muzaffarnagar district authorities have banned victory processions to maintain law and order after the results of the UP Assembly polls.
