The Supreme Court on Monday asked petitioners seeking direction that 50 per cent EVM results should be matched and cross-checked with Voter Verified Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) before the declaration of results in the upcoming General Elections, to file response over the Election Commission’s affidavit in connection the case.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday filed its reply in the Supreme Court and opposed the petition filed by twenty-one political parties through which they had sought direction that 50 per cent EVM results should be matched and cross-checked with VVPATs before the declaration of results in the upcoming General Elections.

Chief Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawat on Tuesday flagged off mobile awareness vehicles that will give demonstration of the working of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) ahead of the assembly elections in the state scheduled on December 7.
There are reports that in Noorpur 140 EVMs are faulty, which is because they’ve been tampered, there are similar reports from Kairana, Rajendra Chaudhary said.
