WhatsApp is developing a new feature allowing users to call and message others using usernames instead of phone numbers, enhancing privacy and ease of contact. The feature is currently in beta testing and will simplify user interactions.
Meta has stated that this change will take effect 15 January 2026. After this, running any third-party AI assistant on WhatsApp or Instagram will be completely prohibited. Only bots that comply with Meta’s official Business API rules will be able to operate on the platform.

The new feature is named “Guest Chats. ” With this, WhatsApp users can chat directly with someone who isn’t using the app by sending them an invite link. The receiver doesn’t need to download the app or make an account.
According to the latest report from WABetaInfo, this feature has been found in the Android beta version 2. 25. 21. 12 and is still being developed.
