UP intensifies crackdown on fuel black marketing
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has stepped up its crackdown on the black marketing of LPG, petrol, and diesel, carrying out over 17,500 raids and inspections across the state since March 12. The drive has so far led to 17 arrests, along with multiple FIRs and legal actions against those involved in irregularities within the fuel supply chain.
Officials said the large-scale operation is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability and improving transparency in distribution. “There is no shortage of LPG, petrol, or diesel. Consumers are receiving supplies as per their needs, and there is no reason for panic,” the government said in a statement.
During the crackdown, 33 FIRs were registered against LPG distributors, while 189 cases were filed in other fuel-related matters. Legal proceedings have been initiated against 224 individuals, underlining the administration’s zero-tolerance approach toward malpractice. District Supply Officers and local authorities have been directed to carry out continuous inspections to maintain strict oversight.
The state currently holds around 91,000 kiloliters of petrol and 115,000 kiloliters of diesel, with 12,888 petrol pumps functioning normally. Data from March 27 to 29 indicates strong fuel sales, suggesting a stable balance between demand and supply. LPG distribution is also running smoothly through a network of 4,107 distributors, while efforts are underway to expand the City Gas Distribution network in urban areas.
The government has appealed to the public to avoid panic buying and unnecessary hoarding, cautioning that such actions can create artificial shortages. To further support supply, the Centre has approved a 20% increase in the allocation of commercial LPG cylinders, benefiting hotels, restaurants, and other businesses.
To ensure real-time monitoring, a 24-hour control room has been set up at the office of the Commissioner of Food and Civil Supplies, along with similar facilities in all districts. Officials say this system is helping maintain seamless fuel supply and enabling quick resolution of public grievances.
