Ballia: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has stepped up his political attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Yadav challenged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to contest the upcoming election from Ayodhya, saying the constituency was open to him if he was confident about his political standing.

The remarks came during a gathering organised by SP leader and Ayodhya candidate Tej Narayan Pandey, also known as Pawan Pandey. According to reports, Akhilesh also indicated that he would visit the Ram temple in Ayodhya for darshan along with party leaders.

Akhilesh Yadav Targets BJP Over Ayodhya

Akhilesh questioned the BJP’s political claims in Ayodhya and referred to the controversy surrounding donations made to the Ram temple. He said people would hold those responsible accountable if allegations of misuse of religious donations were established.

The SP chief also criticised the BJP over its political messaging around Ayodhya and the Ram temple. The BJP has made the temple and its construction a major part of its political narrative, while opposition parties have raised questions about governance, accountability and development.

The allegations over donations remain part of the political dispute and should not be treated as established wrongdoing.

Why Ayodhya Matters Ahead of the 2027 UP Elections

Ayodhya has considerable political and symbolic importance in Uttar Pradesh, particularly because of the Ram temple. The constituency and the surrounding region are likely to remain central to political campaigning as parties prepare for the 2027 Assembly elections.

Yogi Adityanath currently represents Gorakhpur Urban in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. Akhilesh’s challenge has therefore brought renewed attention to speculation over where senior leaders might contest in the next election.

However, the remarks do not amount to an announcement that Yogi Adityanath will contest from Ayodhya.

SP Intensifies Preparations for 2027

The Samajwadi Party has been sharpening its criticism of the BJP on electoral issues and governance as it prepares for the next state election. Akhilesh Yadav has repeatedly questioned the ruling party’s record and outlined his party’s plans to challenge the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.

The latest exchange adds another point of political contest between the two parties ahead of the election, with Ayodhya once again emerging as a focal point of the campaign.
