Allahabad HC grants bail to 8 in controversial biryani-into-Ganges case

Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to eight accused individuals in the case involving the dumping of biryani remains into the Ganges River during a 'Roza Iftar' gathering held on a boat in Varanasi. The Court cited the apology tendered by the accused in their filed affidavits as the basis for granting this relief. However, six other accused individuals involved in this case have not yet been granted bail.

FIR Registered Against 14 Individuals

This case pertains to the alleged dumping of biryani remains into the river during a 'Roza Iftar' gathering held on a boat on the Ganges River in Varanasi. Following the incident, the police registered a case against a total of 14 individuals. The matter garnered significant attention and sparked widespread discussion on social media as well as at the local level.

Following the police action, the accused individuals filed bail petitions in the High Court. While hearing these separate petitions, two single-judge benches of the Court granted relief to eight of the accused.

Bail Granted by Two Separate Benches

A single-judge bench presided over by Justice Rajeev Lochan Shukla granted the bail petitions of Mohammad Azad Ali, Mohammad Tahseem, Nihal Afridi, Mohammad Tausif, and Mohammad Anas.

Meanwhile, a single-judge bench presided over by Justice Jitendra Kumar Sinha issued orders granting bail to Mohammad Sameer, Mohammad Ahmed Raza, and Mohammad Faizan.

'Apology Tendered in Affidavits'

In its order, the Court noted that the affidavits filed on behalf of the accused contained an apology regarding the incident. Based on this premise, the Court agreed to grant them bail.

However, considering the gravity of the matter, the Court has not yet granted relief to the remaining six accused individuals. Their cases are likely to be heard on a future date.
