Fatehpur News: Communal tension has flared up over a mausoleum in the Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh, pushing the entire area to the brink of violence. The situation went out of control after activists of Hindu organizations tried to forcibly occupy the mausoleum located in the Abunagar area of Sadar Kotwali.
People from Hindu groups climbed the mausoleum with saffron flags and vandalized it, while people from the Muslim community started pelting stones in protest. The two sides came face-to-face, after which the police and administration had to intervene.
Although District Magistrate Ravindra Singh and SP Anoop Kumar Singh claimed that the situation was under control, the crowd present at the spot and the tense situation indicated the opposite. Hindu organizations claim that the mausoleum is actually an ancient Thakurji temple, and they have moved to "liberate" it.
They tried to occupy the mausoleum by breaking police barricades, after which violent clashes broke out. The administration tried to pacify the Hindu leaders by talking to them, but people of the Muslim community are still present on the spot, due to which tension remains.
After this incident, security has been tightened in the entire city of Fatehpur. Police and PAC have been deployed at every intersection and street to prevent any untoward incident. A crowd of thousands of people has gathered near Dak Bangla intersection, making it difficult for the administration to handle the situation.
This dispute is not only about a building but also about religious faith and historical claims, which has pushed the entire area towards communal frenzy. If the administration does not take a tough decision soon, this dispute can take an even more serious turn. At present, security forces have been put on full alert to maintain peace in the city.
