Bhadohi: A case has been filed in Bhadohi against a man and his family members for allegedly assaulting a woman during her pregnancies, resulting in the loss of two unborn children. Police said the complaint was submitted during a public grievance hearing.

The accused include the woman’s husband and two of his relatives. Authorities have registered the case at Gopiganj police station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

Allegations of Dowry Harassment

According to police, the woman alleged that her husband and in-laws continued to demand ₹10 lakh despite receiving dowry at the time of marriage in 2022. When the demand was not met, she was allegedly subjected to repeated harassment and physical abuse.

Officials said the complaint outlines a pattern of cruelty linked to dowry demands, which escalated during her pregnancies.

Assaults During Pregnancies

In her statement, the woman claimed that during her first pregnancy, she was assaulted when she was around eight months pregnant. She was later taken to her parental home in critical condition, where she was hospitalised. The unborn child did not survive.

The complaint further alleges that a similar incident occurred during her second pregnancy in September 2025, when she was again physically assaulted.

Alleged Attack at Railway Station

Police said the woman also accused her husband of attacking her at a secluded location near Gyanpur Road railway station. She alleged that she was left injured and threatened with severe consequences if additional dowry was not arranged.

Police added that they are examining all aspects of the complaint, including the timeline of earlier attempts by the woman to report the matter.
