Dhar: In a shocking incident, a man’s murder, initially reported as a robbery, has turned out to be a planned killing allegedly orchestrated by his wife and her lover in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district.

The victim, 28-year-old trader Devkrishna Purohit, was found dead at his residence on April 7. His wife, Priyanka Purohit, initially told police that unidentified assailants had broken into the house, looted valuables worth around ₹3.5 lakh, and killed her husband when he resisted.

Probe Reveals Alleged Plot

As investigators examined the case, inconsistencies in Priyanka’s statements raised suspicion. A deeper probe revealed her alleged relationship with Kamlesh Purohit, a resident of Rajgarh, pointing towards a possible conspiracy.

Police believe the duo planned the murder in advance, viewing the victim as an obstacle. Kamlesh allegedly arranged for an associate, Surendra Bhati, to execute the killing for ₹1 lakh, with half the amount paid upfront.

Crime Scene Staged as Robbery

According to police, the house door was deliberately left unlocked on the night of the incident. The attacker allegedly entered the house and assaulted Devkrishna while he was asleep using a sharp weapon.

To mislead investigators, the room was ransacked and valuables were declared missing. Priyanka also claimed she had been tied up during the incident, attempting to present herself as a victim.

Evidence Contradicts Claims

The alleged cover story began to fall apart when police recovered jewellery from the house that had been reported stolen. Technical evidence, including mobile phone records, further established links between the accused and the sequence of events.

During questioning, Priyanka is said to have confessed to her role in the crime.

Arrests Made, Search On

Police have arrested Priyanka and Kamlesh, while Surendra Bhati remains absconding. Efforts are ongoing to trace him, and forensic reports are awaited to establish further details.

The victim’s family has alleged that the marriage had been strained and has demanded strict punishment for all those involved. Police said the case, initially believed to be a robbery, now points to a premeditated killing.
