Lucknow: In a major development from Uttar Pradesh, cases have been registered against former MP and influential leader Dhananjay Singh in Lucknow, involving charges under the SC/ST Act and extortion (ransom) allegations.
The FIR has been registered in Jaunpur against Vinay Singh, husband of Maharajganj block head Mandavi Singh, his government gunner, and 10 unknown individuals. The FIR includes serious sections such as land grabbing, intimidation, and SC/ST Act violations, and also names Dhananjay Singh. The FIR was filed by Sushant Golf City Police, which has started the investigation.

During construction work, Vinay Singh allegedly threatened people using Dhananjay Singh’s name. Initially, SHO Upendra Singh had registered an FIR against the victim party. After a video of the incident went viral, the FIR was registered against Dhananjay Singh and Vinay Singh. In this case, SHO Upendra Singh has been placed under suspension.
Jaunpur Extortion Case (2020): Dhananjay Singh was convicted in Jaunpur for kidnapping and demanding ransom. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison. This case is related to Jaunpur, not Lucknow.
Lucknow Cases: According to legal documents, multiple criminal cases have been registered against him at Janakipuram and Hazratganj police stations in Lucknow. These include extortion, criminal intimidation, and other sections of the IPC (384, 506, etc.). Some cases have reached their final report stage, while others are under appeal.
SC/ST Act Allegations: While reports mention the SC/ST Act, there is no clear public record of a new SC/ST Act case specifically filed in Lucknow. Overall, more than 40 criminal cases have been registered against him under various charges.
Older Cases (Varanasi, 2002): Dhananjay Singh was also involved as a complainant and accused in an older shootout case in Nadesar, Varanasi, under the Gangster Act, for which his appeal in the High Court was rejected.
This development adds to the long list of criminal cases associated with the former lawmaker, who remains a controversial figure in Uttar Pradesh politics.
