Maharajganj: The flood situation in Sohagi Barwa area of Maharajganj district has become increasingly serious as the water level of the Narayani River continues to rise. Villagers spent the entire night in fear and uncertainty, worried about the worsening situation and waiting for rescue assistance.
Continuous rainfall in Nepal and nearby areas has increased the pressure on the river system, causing floodwaters to enter several villages. Many residents are now demanding immediate deployment of more boats to evacuate people trapped in affected areas.
People living in flood-hit areas say that the number of rescue boats available at present is not enough to deal with the situation. Villagers have demanded around 100 additional boats so that stranded families can be safely shifted to Naurangia.

According to residents, the delay in evacuation could increase difficulties as water levels continue to rise.
The situation has become critical in several parts of Sohagi Barwa, where floodwater has reportedly reached from waist level to near the neck in some areas.
Several locations identified as temporary safe shelters, including flood relief centres, secretariat buildings and primary schools, have also been affected by rising water. This has created additional challenges for people looking for safer places.
Villages located along the Narayani River, including Gedahwa’s Balua Tola and Kanmishwa’s Aurahwa Tola, have been impacted by flooding.
Officials said around 300 houses in 11 villages near the river have been affected due to the rising water level.
The administration has accelerated relief and rescue operations in the affected areas. Several residents from Gedahwa village have been evacuated and shifted to safer locations.
Authorities are providing essential facilities, including food, drinking water and medical assistance, to displaced families.
Under the supervision of Additional District Magistrate Dr Prashant Kumar, relief work has been carried out. Around 500 flood-affected people shifted to safe locations have been provided meals through community kitchens. Medicines and other essential supplies are also being arranged.
Administrative teams are continuously monitoring the river level and flood situation. Rescue teams remain active to shift people to safer areas if conditions worsen.
However, residents of Sohagi Barwa say their immediate priority is increasing the number of rescue boats. They have urged authorities to speed up evacuation efforts so that people can be moved to safety before the situation becomes more severe.
