Samajwadi Party Supremo Akhilesh Yadav
Lucknow: Political activity surrounding the 2027 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh is intensifying. Within the 'INDIA' alliance, a round of discussions regarding seat-sharing and potential new political equations has already begun.
Amidst this, Samajwadi Party Supremo Akhilesh Yadav has issued a statement that is being interpreted as a direct political message to the Congress party. He stated clearly, "It is not about seats; it is about victory."
Statement Comes
In recent days, attempts by Congress leaders to meet with Mayawati had sparked fresh speculation within UP politics. It began to be assumed that the Congress was exploring the possibility of including the BSP in the opposition alliance as well.
Several leaders—including Rajendra Pal Gautam, Chairman of the Congress's Scheduled Castes Department, and Barabanki MP Tanuj Punia—had sought to meet Mayawati; however, the meeting did not materialize.
In the wake of these developments, Akhilesh Yadav's statement is being viewed as highly significant. Political analysts suggest that the SP chief has signaled that if the Congress chooses to explore other options, the Samajwadi Party considers itself fully prepared to contest the elections independently.
SP Ready for All 403 Seats
Akhilesh Yadav asserted that the Samajwadi Party has successfully strengthened its organizational structure across all 403 Assembly constituencies in the state. The party's preparations are complete right down to the booth level, and any political party that chooses to align with the SP will stand to benefit from this extensive network.
He repeatedly emphasized that the primary objective of any alliance should not merely be the distribution of seats, but rather the ultimate victory in the elections. His statement is also being interpreted as an indication that, within the realm of alliance politics in UP, the SP intends to position itself in the role of the "elder brother."
Focuses on 'PDA' Formula
The Samajwadi Party continues to work strategically on strengthening the 'PDA' equation—an acronym representing 'Pichhda' (Backward Classes), 'Dalit', and 'Alpsankhyak' (Minorities). During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, this very social coalition—combined with the alliance formed with the Congress—posed a formidable challenge to the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.
Now, the SP... This seeks to convey the message that constituent parties within the alliance should not merely demand seats, but must also demonstrate their political strength at the grassroots level.
While the 2027 Assembly elections are still some time away, political parties have already begun to clarify their respective stances. Akhilesh Yadav's statement is being interpreted as an indication that the Samajwadi Party does not wish to engage in pressure politics regarding the alliance, but rather intends to prioritize the prospects of victory.
