UP Govt announces wage hike after Noida protests; Here’s when it will be implemented

Noida: Following the violent protests in Noida, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken a major decision for workers. The government has announced an interim increase in minimum wage rates, effective April 1. This decision is effective immediately, while preparations are underway to form a wage board for a permanent solution in the future.

Wages Increased in Different Categories

According to the new rates issued by the government, wages have been increased for unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled workers. The monthly wage for unskilled workers has been fixed at ₹11,313.65, for semi-skilled workers at ₹12,446, and for skilled workers at ₹13,940.37. Daily wages have also increased. Overall, increases of up to ₹3,000 have been observed across different categories.

₹20,000 Wage Reports Denied

The government has completely rejected reports circulating on social media claiming that the minimum wage would be set at ₹20,000. Calling this information "fabricated and false," the government has urged people to trust only official sources.

Wage Board to be Formed

According to the government, this increase is interim, and a Wage Board will be formed soon. This board will review all aspects related to workers' wages and, based on its recommendations, a permanent wage structure will be established. Furthermore, the central government is also working towards implementing a uniform floor wage under the new labor codes.

CM Yogi's Appeal and Strict Instructions

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has appealed to employers to ensure workers receive benefits such as timely wages, overtime pay, weekly leave, and bonuses. He has also issued instructions to prioritize the safety of women employees. He condemned the violence committed by unruly elements and directed the administration to take strict action.

Situation worsened due to protest

It is noteworthy that on Monday, employees of private companies in Noida demonstrated demanding salary increases and better working conditions. This protest gradually turned violent, leading to traffic jams around Sectors 60 and 62 and incidents of arson. Following this, the government has taken this important decision to control the situation.
