Workers forced to eat on roads amid ongoing demonstration
Noida: Factory workers in Noida continued their protest for the third consecutive day on Monday, raising strong demands for higher minimum wages, double overtime pay, improved safety standards, and strict action against workplace harassment.

The workers have vowed to continue their protest until their demands are addressed, while authorities are yet to announce any concrete resolution.
Police Attempt to Defuse Tensions
After receiving reports of a sit-in protest, police officials reached the affected sites and are currently engaging with workers to restore calm. Authorities said they are urging protesters to remain peaceful while efforts to resolve the situation continue.

Workers Cite Low Wages, Long Hours
Workers say their primary grievances revolve around low pay and long working hours. Many claim they earn less than Rs 12,000 per month despite working up to 12 hours a day.
“We are only asking for two things-overtime pay and a minimum wage of Rs 20,000,” one worker said, alleging exploitation and poor workplace conditions, including lack of timely meals and inadequate safety for women.
Another protester added that an eight-hour shift with fair wages is essential for basic survival, questioning how families can manage under current pay levels.
Haryana Wage Hike Fuels Discontent
The protests have intensified following a recent wage revision in Haryana under the government led by Nayab Singh Saini. The state increased minimum wages by around 35%, with unskilled workers now earning at least Rs 15,220 per month and semi-skilled workers Rs 16,780.
Workers in Noida argue that they are being underpaid compared to their counterparts in Haryana, despite performing similar roles. They also allege that some companies are not complying with central minimum wage norms.
Violence Breaks Out
The protests turned violent in parts of Noida, with several vehicles set on fire. Police have deployed senior officers to monitor the situation closely and maintain order. Officials emphasized that only minimal force is being used and warned against spreading rumours.
Government Response
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said workers must receive fair wages, safe working environments, and basic facilities. He directed industries to comply with labour laws and instructed the labour department to initiate dialogue with stakeholders.
He also warned that strict action would be taken against those attempting to incite unrest and called for heightened security in industrial zones.
